About
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!
I am thrilled and honored to join South Valley Middle School as your new principal. I look forward to collaborating with each of you to create a positive and enriching environment for our students and staff.
This year, we have three primary goals.
1. Improving Staff and Student Culture: A positive, inclusive culture is essential for the success of both our students and staff. We will work together to foster a supportive and collaborative environment where everyone feels valued and motivated. The Platteville community supported our school and we will need to continue to build on that support. 2. Growing Academically: Academic excellence remains a top priority. Through innovative teaching methods and a commitment to continuous improvement, we will help our students achieve their full potential. 3. Helping Students Become Their Best Selves: Beyond academics, we aim to guide our students in becoming compassionate, responsible, and well-rounded individuals. We will support them in developing the skills and character needed to thrive in and out of the classroom.
I am excited about the journey ahead and confident that, together, we will make this an outstanding year for South Valley Middle School. Thank you for your dedication and enthusiasm as we embark on this new chapter.
A little about me as I come on board into South Valley:
My core beliefs are centered around honesty, continuous improvement, and relevance for staff and students. To maintain those beliefs, I value efficiency and relationships with the staff that I work with very heavily. My journey in education started with my parents who were longtime teachers and coaches in the North Park School District. I attended Northern Colorado for my bachelor's degree, Adams State for my master's in Coaching and Sports Management, and Western State for my master's in Educational Leadership. This summer I finished up the UCCS School Administrator's Licensing Program so that I can continue to grow my influence on education, possibly as superintendent in the future. I have spent my career in small schools and districts, so South Valley will feel like home to me. In my time in education, I have served as a teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal, principal, and director of secondary schools. I am a big supporter of getting kids involved in sports, music, drama, clubs, or anything that the school offers beyond the classroom.
My wife is an elementary PE and technology teacher. We have two boys that keep us busy with sports and activities. We have 3 labs and a teacup Yorkie that thinks she owns the whole house!
My goal over the next year is to honor the excellent work that is taking place throughout the South Valley and highlight our strengths. I have found that it is important for me to be in classrooms on a regular basis, so I can celebrate and leverage areas of strength throughout our school. It also allows me to make better decisions and build connections with staff and students. Each week I will try to send out a weekly update to keep families informed of happenings at the school. Let's make the 2024-2025 school year our best yet!
Sincerely,
Scott Hodgson
